The show, which features heavy quarrying and construction machinery, was scheduled for June 2009.
It leaves SED 2009 as the only major construction equipment show taking place in the UK this year.
SED sales director Tim Porter said: "We have already had enquiries from Hillhead exhibitors about coming to SED, and we've also attracted several truck exhibitors after the CV Show was cancelled earlier this year."
A statement on the Hillhead website said: "In view of both the scale and speed with which the current adverse economic climate has developed, a decision has been made to postpone the Hillhead show scheduled for June 2009 for a period of 12 months.

"Despite the show being heavily booked as usual, discussions took place with leading exhibitors at the end of January following which it was concluded that it would be in the best interests of the event if it were put back a full year to allow UK market conditions time to stabilise."
